Celebrating Our EMT Heroes: Recognition and Achievements

The Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC) recently held a special ceremony to honor its dedicated members. This event celebrated the hard work and commitment of our emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Seven new EMTs received their pins, marking their official entry into this vital service.

Among the new members were Scott Jones, Aditya Gupta, Hans Wernke, Ray Lay, Esther Hilbers, Mya Salvino, and Grace Todd. Each of these individuals joined WVAC within the past year. Their dedication to serving the community is commendable.

Acknowledging Years of Service

During the ceremony, we also recognized long-serving members. Tom Klinga received accolades for an impressive 25 years of service. Drew Kennedy and Brian McDermott were honored for their 10 years of dedication. Their contributions have significantly impacted the community and the organization.

The 500 Club Recognition

Another highlight of the event was the introduction of the 500 Club. This recognition honors members who volunteered over 500 hours in the past year. Congratulations to John Miscioscia, Dave Smith, Gabe Tully, Esther Hilbers, Libby Nagle, Brian McDermott, and Pete Vogric for achieving this remarkable milestone. Their commitment exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism.

Scholarships for Future Leaders

WVAC is proud to support its members pursuing higher education in medicine. This year, several deserving individuals received scholarships. The recipients include Nicole Beecher, Claire Griffin, Michael Colbert, Ray Lai, Mya Salvino, and Saanvi Kakarlapudi. These scholarships help foster the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The Fairchild Recognition Award is presented annually to a WVAC member who is recognized for going above and beyond in their service to WVAC and the community. This award which was started in 2017 , was originally called the Russell D. Fairchild Award, when local beloved plumber, John Fairchild would often provide his services to residents of Wilton at no charge, and instead asked them to make a donation in his late father's name to WVAC. His father, Russell, was a patient of WVAC's on multiple occasions after an unfortunate accident at the Wilton Transfer Station until he passed away. John passed away suddenly in 2018 and the award was renamed the Fairchild Recognition Award in honor and memory of them both.

This year, Brian McDermott received the prestigious Fairchild Recognition Award. This award honors a member who goes above and beyond in their service to WVAC and the community. The award was established in 2017, originally named the Russell D. Fairchild Award. It honors John Fairchild, a beloved local plumber who provided services to residents at no charge. Instead, he requested donations to WVAC in memory of his father, Russell, who was a patient of WVAC.

The Fairchild Recognition Award serves as a reminder of the spirit of giving and community support that defines our organization.
